SINCE 1926

Our story

A pharmacy, a post office window, and a gift boutique, run by people who live here. Here's how a hundred years on Lake Avenue happened.

    1926

The doors open on Lake Avenue

Frank Webster opens the pharmacy on Lake Avenue. From the start it is more than a dispensary: a soda fountain, cosmetics, photo supplies, and a liquor counter make it a community hub.

    The Prohibition years

    Medicinal liquor at the counter

Webster's is one of only two pharmacies in the San Gabriel Valley authorized to sell medicinal liquor. The stories from that counter are still told.

    1960s and 70s

    Altadena's general store

Under William Webster the shop spreads into a row of connected storefronts and becomes, for a generation of families, Altadena's general store.

  4. 2010

    The Millers take the keys

Michael and Meredith Miller buy Webster's that December. Vaccinations, delivery, and a much larger gift department follow.

    2017 and 2018

    Beautiful Altadena 91001

The Beautiful Altadena 91001™ line launches, and Webster's is named California Small Business of the Year.

    A move down the street

A lease comes to an end and the whole pharmacy moves down the street to 2333 Lake Avenue.

Back open, and the mail with it

The Eaton Fire displaces much of the neighborhood. The pharmacy is cleaned, remediated, and reopened in February, with a delivery radius wide enough to reach everyone who had to move. The Village Post Office window opens that July.

One hundred years. The whole town came to the party.

Meet the Millers

Meredith and Michael Miller keep Webster's what it has always been: a counter where somebody knows you. Come say hello, or send them a note.

A hundred years takes a team

Pharmacists, technicians, and the people who wrap your gifts and tape your packages. Most of them live here too, which is why the counter still feels like a neighborhood counter.
